coverage of home blood glucose monitors (and related supplies) to include people with Type
II diabetes, who are not being treated with insulin injections. Tight glucose control
(maintaining blood glucose at near normal levels) can help prevent serious complications
such as heart disease, stroke, nerve disease, amputations, blindness, and kidney disease.
This involves self-monitoring of blood glucose levels in combination with dietary control,
exercise, and pharmacologic agents as required. |
